Ingredients:
- 12 oz (340g) Spicy Italian Sausage (bulk or casings removed)
- 1 cup (115g) Shredded Mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup (50g) Grated Asiago or Parmesan cheese
- 1 medium (150g) Red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- ½ medium (50g) Red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves (6g) Garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Olive oil
- 2 pieces (approx. 150g each) Naan or store-bought flatbreads
- ½ cup (120ml) Spicy marinara or pizza sauce
- 1 tsp (2g) Red pepper flakes
- ¼ cup (10g) Fresh basil leaves, torn
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Hot honey or balsamic glaze
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the spicy Italian sausage, breaking it into small crumbles with a spoon.
- Sauté until the meat is mahogany-colored and cooked through (about 5–7 minutes).
- Stir in the sliced peppers, onions, and minced garlic during the last 3 minutes of cooking until vegetables are tender-crisp. Remove from heat.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Place flatbreads on the baking sheet.
- Spread 2–3 tbsp (30–45ml) of marinara sauce evenly across each base, leaving a ½ inch border for the crust.
- Distribute the sausage and pepper mixture evenly over the sauce.
- Top with a generous layer of mozzarella and then a sprinkle of Asiago.
- Slide the baking sheet into the center rack of the oven and bake for 8–12 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and the edges of the flatbread are golden and crisp.
- Remove from the oven and immediately garnish with fresh basil and red pepper flakes.
