Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin recommended), sliced into 1/4-inch strips
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 12 slider buns (Hawaiian rolls work great!)
  • 6 ounces (170g) provolone cheese slices (or cheese wiz for the purists)
  • 4 tablespoons (56g) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Season the steak strips with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers and sauté until softened and slightly caramelized. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the seasoned steak strips and cook until browned and cooked through. Break up any large clumps as it cooks.
  4. Return the sautéed onions and peppers to the skillet with the steak. Toss to combine. Top with provolone cheese slices and cover the skillet to allow the cheese to melt evenly.
  5. Slice the slider buns in half horizontally.
  6. Spoon the steak and cheese mixture onto the bottom halves of the slider buns.
  7. Brush the tops of the slider buns with melted butter (adds a nice sheen and flavor).
  8. Place the assembled sliders on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is melted and gooey. This step is optional but helps meld the flavors.
  9. Serve immediately while warm.
