Ingredients:
- 1 cup prepared pesto (store-bought or homemade, preferably basil pesto)
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced (or shredded)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 package (14.1 oz / 400g) all-butter puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk or water
- Sesame seeds or Everything Bagel seasoning (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
Instructions:
- Combine pesto, mozzarella, Parmesan, and garlic in a bowl. Mix until well combined.
- Gently unfold puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Roll lightly if needed to even it out.
- Spread the pesto mixture evenly over the puff pastry sheet, leaving a small border.
- Starting from one end, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log. Slice the log into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick swirls.
- Whisk together the egg and milk (or water).
- Place the swirls cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Brush each swirl with the egg wash.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds or Everything Bagel seasoning (optional).
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving. Garnish with fresh basil.
