Ingredients:

  • 1 cup prepared pesto (store-bought or homemade, preferably basil pesto)
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced (or shredded)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 package (14.1 oz / 400g) all-butter puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk or water
  • Sesame seeds or Everything Bagel seasoning (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine pesto, mozzarella, Parmesan, and garlic in a bowl. Mix until well combined.
  2. Gently unfold puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Roll lightly if needed to even it out.
  3. Spread the pesto mixture evenly over the puff pastry sheet, leaving a small border.
  4. Starting from one end, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log. Slice the log into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick swirls.
  5. Whisk together the egg and milk (or water).
  6. Place the swirls cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Brush each swirl with the egg wash.
  7. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or Everything Bagel seasoning (optional).
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Let cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving. Garnish with fresh basil.
