Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons Dried Mediterranean Oregano
- 2 tablespoons Dried Sweet Basil
- 1 tablespoon Dried Thyme Leaves
- 1 tablespoon Dried Rosemary Needles (must be crushed)
- 1 teaspoon Dried Marjoram
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper (Freshly Ground)
- 1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Rosemary: Place the dried rosemary needles into a mortar and pestle or spice grinder. Pulse briefly or lightly grind until the long, sharp needles are broken down into small, fine pieces. Do not skip this step for best texture.
- Measure and Combine Dry Ingredients: Measure the dried oregano, basil, thyme, marjoram, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper directly into the mixing bowl.
- Add Prepared Rosemary: Transfer the crushed rosemary into the bowl with the other measured herbs.
- Incorporate Optional Spices: If desired, add the red pepper flakes now.
- Thoroughly Mix: Using a small whisk or fork, combine all ingredients until the blend is completely uniform in colour and texture. Ensure the finer powders are fully incorporated into the coarser herbs.
- Transfer and Seal: Carefully transfer the finished Italian seasoning blend into a clean, airtight glass jar.
- Cure (Optional but Recommended): Seal the jar tightly and give it a good shake. Allow the blend to sit for at least 24 hours before use. This allows the essential oils to mingle for a richer, more cohesive flavour.
- Store: Keep the jar in a cool, dark place (like a pantry or cupboard) away from heat and direct sunlight to preserve maximum potency.
