Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), washed and dried
- 6 wooden craft sticks or sturdy skewers
- 1 (14 ounce) package caramel squares, unwrapped
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt
- ½ cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, peanuts) (Optional)
- ½ cup sprinkles (Optional)
- ½ cup chocolate chips, melted (Optional)
Instructions:
- Wash and thoroughly dry apples. Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine unwrapped caramel squares, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt in a small saucepan.
- Melt over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and completely melted. Alternatively, melt in a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over simmering water, stirring occasionally.
- Working quickly, dip each apple into the melted caramel, turning to coat completely. Lift the apple and let excess caramel drip off.
- Immediately sprinkle with chopped nuts, sprinkles, or dip in melted chocolate, if desired.
- Place the dipped apples on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the caramel is set.
