Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), washed and dried
  • 6 wooden craft sticks or sturdy skewers
  • 1 (14 ounce) package caramel squares, unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, peanuts) (Optional)
  • ½ cup sprinkles (Optional)
  • ½ cup chocolate chips, melted (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry apples. Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine unwrapped caramel squares, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt in a small saucepan.
  3. Melt over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and completely melted. Alternatively, melt in a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over simmering water, stirring occasionally.
  4. Working quickly, dip each apple into the melted caramel, turning to coat completely. Lift the apple and let excess caramel drip off.
  5. Immediately sprinkle with chopped nuts, sprinkles, or dip in melted chocolate, if desired.
  6. Place the dipped apples on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the caramel is set.
