Ingredients:
- 1 (14.3 oz) package (405 grams) Oreo Cookies (Original flavour), including the cream filling
- 8 ounces (227 grams) Full Fat Cream Cheese, softened to room temperature
- 12 ounces (340 grams) Melting Chocolate Wafers or good quality dark chocolate
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Coconut Oil or Vegetable Shortening (Optional)
- Optional Garnishes (Crushed Oreos, sea salt, sprinkles, or cocoa powder), As needed
Instructions:
- Crush the Cookies: Place the entire package of Oreos (cookies and cream) into a food processor. Process until the mixture resembles fine, even crumbs.
- Reserve Garnish: Set aside about 2 tablespoons of the fine crumbs for the final topping, if desired.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the softened cream cheese to the remaining crushed Oreos. Pulse or mix on low speed until the mixture is fully combined and holds together like a thick, sticky dough. Do not overmix.
- Chill (Initial Set): Transfer the mixture into a bowl, cover, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This firms the mixture, making it easier to handle.
- Roll the Balls: Using a small cookie scoop, portion the chilled dough into uniform 1-inch balls. Roll them lightly between your palms until smooth. Place the balls onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Chill (Crucial Set): Return the rolled balls to the refrigerator or freezer for another 60 minutes. They must be thoroughly cold to prevent the chocolate coating from melting them or developing cracks later.
- Melt the Chocolate: In a double boiler or using 30-second bursts in the microwave (stirring between each burst), melt the chocolate wafers until smooth. Stir in the optional coconut oil to improve fluidity.
- Dip the Truffles: Remove the cold Oreo balls from the fridge/freezer. Use a dipping tool to submerge one truffle completely into the melted chocolate. Tap the tool gently against the side of the bowl to allow excess chocolate to drip off.
- Set and Garnish: Place the coated truffle back onto the parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle with the reserved Oreo crumbs or other desired garnishes before the chocolate sets.
- Final Set: Allow the chocolate coating to fully harden. Store the finished truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
