Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450 g) Fresh Green Beans, trimmed and washed
  • 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) Smoked Paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) Flaky Sea Salt, plus more to finish
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) Lemon Zest (Optional Garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Beans: Wash the green beans thoroughly. Snap or trim the tough, stalk end off each bean. Crucially, pat the beans completely dry using a kitchen towel or paper towel, as excess moisture prevents crisping.
  2. Combine Seasoning: In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Beans: Place the dried beans in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and toss well until lightly coated. Add the prepared seasoning blend and toss vigorously until every bean is evenly covered.
  4. Preheat: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes. Starting hot is key to achieving that crispy, blistered texture.
  5. Load the Basket: Transfer the seasoned green beans into the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd. For best results, cook in two separate batches if your basket is small, ensuring the beans are spread in a relatively thin layer.
  6. Initial Cook: Cook the beans for 5 minutes.
  7. Shake and Finish: After 5 minutes, open the basket and vigorously shake the beans to redistribute them. Close the basket and continue cooking for another 3 to 5 minutes, until the beans are tender-crisp with visibly charred or blistered spots.
  8. Serve: Transfer the beans immediately to a serving dish. If using, sprinkle with lemon zest or an extra pinch of flaky salt before serving.
