Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) sugar
- 2 teaspoons (10ml) active dry yeast
- 2 ½ cups (300g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil, plus more for greasing
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.
- In the same bowl, add the flour and salt. Mix with a wooden spoon or spatula to roughly combine.
- Pour in the olive oil and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the pizza dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide the dough in half. Gently stretch or roll each half into a 12-inch circle.
- Place each dough circle on a piece of parchment paper or a lightly floured pizza peel.
- Top with your favourite pizza toppings.
- Preheat oven to its highest temperature (usually 500-550°F / 260-290°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside. Slide the pizza onto the hot stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, slice, and serve immediately.
