Ingredients:

  • 2 medium Gala, Fuji, or Pink Lady apples, peeled and diced into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp filtered water
  • 1 tsp unsalted butter or virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tsp hemp hearts

Instructions:

  1. Peel the apples. Use your peeler to remove all skin. Note: Peels can be a choking hazard or just plain frustrating for toddlers to chew.
  2. Dice into cubes. Cut the fruit into 1/2 inch pieces. Continue until all fruit is uniform in size.
  3. Heat the pan. Place your skillet over medium low heat and add the butter or coconut oil.
  4. Sizzle the spices. Add the cinnamon to the melted fat. Note: This blooms the spice, making it much more fragrant than just dusting it on at the end.
  5. Add the apples. Toss the cubes into the pan and stir to coat them in the cinnamon butter mixture.
  6. Deglaze with water. Pour in the 1 tablespoon of water. Watch for the immediate burst of steam.
  7. Cover and simmer. Put the lid on tightly and cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
  8. Check for tenderness. Pierce a cube with a fork; it should slide in with zero resistance.
  9. Reduce the liquid. If there's still water in the pan, remove the lid and sauté for 1 more minute until the liquid turns into a thin glaze.
  10. Add the finish. Remove from heat and stir in the hemp hearts. Let it cool for at least 3 minutes before serving.
